Win Your Monday = Win Your Week

mind motivation Aug 14, 2023

Mondays set the stage for the rest of the week. The beginning of the week gives us a fresh start. However, it can also be the most daunting day of the week when we look at our task list. It can feel very overwhelming especially when there is some carryover from unfinished projects of the prior week.

Here are 5 Strategies that I integrate into my Mondays:

#1 Morning Routine:
I start every morning with a good morning routine. It sets the tone for the day. I had no idea how impactful a good morning routine is until I had one. Of course, I start with a good cup of coffee. I take my Xpand Health - Health and Personal Performance Planner  (you can get your planner here) and plan the week and the day. In the daily morning journal section I set my intentions for the day,  identify the challenges that might come up, and how to handle them. I make sure to have self-care time scheduled into my day. After that, I have breakfast and do my workout.

#2 Prioritize & Strategize:
Rather than diving straight into tasks, I take a moment on Monday mornings to prioritize my tasks for the week. I identify the most crucial tasks (I call them needle movers) and set clear objectives. By understanding what needs immediate attention and what can wait, I can allocate my time and energy more efficiently. Then, I take a look at my day ahead and identify my needle movers for the day.

#3 Avoid Email Overwhelm:
Checking emails first thing in the morning usually turns into the reactive mode for me and takes a lot of energy and time. Instead of starting the day buried in the flood of emails, I usually pick a specific time to check and respond to them in the early afternoon. By batching this task, I avoid constant interruptions and maintain my workflow better.

#4 Set Clear Boundaries:
Successful Mondays aren’t about cramming in as much work as possible; they’re about working smart. I set clear boundaries for my work. This could mean blocking off focused work periods, taking scheduled breaks to recharge, or setting a hard stop time to ensure work-life balance. The hard stop time is still a work in progress.

#5 Reflect and Celebrate Small Wins:
Mondays can often feel overwhelming with the anticipation of the week ahead. Just a few years ago I started doing a better job of integrating time at the end of the day to reflect on what they’ve achieved and celebrate small victories. Yes, celebrating yourself is not selfish, it is a great way to increase your overall health and well-being by utilizing neuroscience.

Incorporate these practices and see what changes they will make in your productivity. Remember, it’s not about working harder, but smarter and more efficiently. Embrace Monday with a plan and a positive mindset.
