Make Your New Year's Resolutions a Success.
Dec 27, 2021Have you started New Year's resolutions in past years but found yourself failing by mid to end February? This week, I would like to recommend a great book that will help you to implement new habits more successfully. Anatomic Habits by James Clear, shares science-based strategies that will help you to follow through with your New Year's resolutions and create long-term success.
Most Common Reasons Why Your New Year's Resolutions Fail
Reason #1: Your goal is too big
It is very common to be super motivated and the tendency is to set a goal that is simply too big. If you have never been running and now you decided to run 5 days per week, 45 min per session then your goal might be too big. You will do fine for the first 3-4 weeks. After 4-5 weeks your body just can't keep up with recovery time. You end up skipping a day, feeling exhausted and demotivated.
Instead, start with small increments that your body can sustain for a longer period of time (weeks). Gradually add time or intensity.
Reason #2: Your goal is not specific enough
"Getting in shape", "eating healthy" are goals that are hard to reach since they are not specific enough. Do you really know what eating healthy means to you? What do you need to do to eat healthily?
Instead, set a specific goal like "workout 30 min (15min strength, 15min cardio) 3x per week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) at 6 pm.
Reason #3: Know Your Why
Do you care about your goal? For example, why is a healthier diet important to you? How does it impact your life? What benefit does it have for you or your loved ones?
