Jul 11, 2022

Do you love to listen to music? Do you use it to energize and get in a good mood or sometimes use it to calm down and relax? Here is some interesting information about music and the brain: listening to music activates almost all areas of the brain. Therefore it can have a variety of benefits.

First, music activates the auditory cortex which lies in the temporal lobe. The temporal lobe plays a role in creating and preserving both conscious and long-term memory. It is involved in visual and sound processing and is important for both object recognition and language recognition. It is also a significant part of the limbic system. The limbic system is involved with motivation, emotion, learning, and memory.

This is why music promotes well-being, enhances learning, stimulates cognitive function, improves the quality of life, and even induces happiness.

3 Tips for listening to music safely

 #1: Turn The Volume Down

Excessive sound can be harmful to the auditory system. Keeping the volume below 60-70% is suggested. Headphones do a better job eliminating outside noise, allowing you to listen to music at a lower volume.

#2: Use Both Earbuds

Sound has an impact on a lot of areas of the brain including the vestibular system (inner ear). Using only one earbud over a prolonged time can affect your balance and posture and may cause back pain.

 #3: 60 Minute Rule

Give your ears a break from your earphones after 60 minutes of music listening. Your ears and brain do need a break to stay healthy.
