Avoid These Foods and Add More Beneficial Foods For Your Immune System.

Jan 24, 2022

Our diet affects how we feel and how well our body functions. In order to maximize results, it is important to think both ways: eating foods that boost our immune system, as well as eliminating foods that are not good for our immune system.

Nutrient-dense, well-rounded diet supports our immune system, a diet that’s low in nutrients and high in ultra-processed foods impairs immune function.

Studies have shown a correlation between high blood sugar levels and impaired immune response.

FOODS THAT DESTROY OUR IMMUNE SYSTEM:

(not a complete list)

#1: Added Sugar

Blood sugar-raising foods such as those high in added sugar, increase the production of inflammatory proteins (tumor necrosis alpha (TNF-α), C-reactive protein (CRP), and interleukin-6 (IL-6)). These inflammatory proteins negatively affect immune function.

High blood sugar levels may inhibit the response of neutrophils and phagocytes, two types of immune cells that help protect against infection.

Certain autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, may be negatively affected by high blood sugar levels.

Limiting your intake of foods and beverages high in added sugar, including ice cream, cake, candy, and sugary beverages, can improve your overall health and promote healthy immune function.

 #2: Excessive Salt

Salty foods like chips, frozen dinners, and fast food may impair your body’s immune response. High salt diets may trigger tissue inflammation and increase the risk of autoimmune diseases.

#3: High Level of AGEs

Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are proteins or lipids (fats) that become glaciated as a result of exposure to sugar.  AGEs are formed during high-temperature cooking, such as frying, barbecuing, and roasting.

Foods highest in AGEs include meat (especially red meat), certain cheeses, fried eggs, butter, cream cheese, mayonnaise, oils, and nuts.

Highly processed food products also contain high levels of AGEs. AGEs can contribute to inflammation, cellular damage, and cause bacteria imbalance in the gut, all of which can negatively affect our immune health.

Note: Artificial sweeteners and preservatives are not good for the immune system either.
