5 signs that you need to take a break from social media
Jul 04, 2022There is no denying that social media is a big part of our world today. It keeps us connected, informed, and can be educational. On the downside, there have been many studies that show that it triggers more depression, loneliness, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Just taking a week off has been shown to reduce anxiety and depression as well as improve well-being, health, and happiness. If you follow me on Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn you may have noticed that I did not post for a little more than a week - I took a break from social media. It felt great and I highly recommend giving it a try.
Another study showed that limiting social media to 30min per day has also a positive impact on our mental health and well-being.
Here are common signs that you should take a break from social media:
- Comparison - We all compare ourselves to others whether we are aware of it or not. Comparison - up (other people having what we don't have) or down (we think we have it better or more than the others) has shown to be a major factor in our happiness. Do you catch yourself having the feeling of jealousy?
- FOMO - Fear Of Missing Out, do you find yourself scrolling through social media because you have the fear of missing something?
- Scrolling - Do you find yourself scrolling without even paying attention? Maybe you have seen the same post already?
- Neglecting other tasks - Spending too much time on social media and not getting your most important tasks done.
- First and last of the day - Do you check social media first thing in the morning and last at night? Definitely time for a break!
